tvOS 26 is coming this fall with a new visual design

Apple today announced a new version of the software that powers Apple TV, tvOS 26. The headline feature of the new update is an updated visual design. Apple calls this new design “Liquid Glass”.

In terms of new features, tvOS 26 includes updates to Apple Music Sing and enhancements to profile switching.

The new OS design uses real-time rendering to refract surrounding colours into other UI elements. Apple says the design aims to keeps the content central, so you can enjoy your TV shows and movies.

The TV app uses Liquid Glass to feature new poster art. The home screen has updated icons with depth and specular highlights.

Apple Music Sing is upgraded in tvOS 26. Now, you can use your iPhone as a handheld microphone to really get the sing-along party started. Friends can join in using their own iPhone to add songs to the karaoke queue, and react with on-screen emoji.

Profile switching gets a bit more convenient in tvOS 26, with a setting to automatically show the profile chooser UI when the Apple TV wakes from sleep. This makes it easier to dive into a person’s individual watchlist in the TV app.

There are also new Aerial screensavers to enjoy, and you can pick any AirPlay speaker as the permanent speaker for Apple TV. This capability was previously reserved for HomePods only.
